Information Technology

Dr Jaychand Upadhyay

Greetings from the Department of Information Technology.

It goes without saying that the whole world is  IT (Information Technology) driven. IT is an exciting and evolving field that offers many and varied career opportunities. Since IT plays an ever greater role in people’s daily lives, like education, business, medicine, media and entertainment, the demand for persons with IT expertise is also on the rise. We inculcate in our students strong moral Jesuit values which enhance their daily lives as they come to grips with ever changing technologies. Jesuit education emphasises on forming the Whole Person with the pursuit of excellence and moral training. The result of such education is that our students find placements in companies like Infosys, Capgemini, Tech-Mahindra, ATOS, L&T, Hexaware, NSEIT, ZYCUS, TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, CISCO, Amazon, Facebook and many more.

When parents come for admission, I hear them saying that they prefer Computer Engineering (Comps) rather than IT. In reality, the syllabus for IT and Computers is almost the same for both. Both have so much in common that an IT student can apply for Computer jobs and vice-versa in every field, be it in education or industry. The presumption that Computer Engineering is better than IT is unfounded. One of our students, Suraj Iyer, who had graduated from XIE, has cracked the XAT exam and is qualified to join XLRI and completed an MBA in Jamshedpur. Apart from the regular syllabus, XIE, throughout the year, conducts Aptitude tests, training for GRE and civil services, mock placement interviews and conducts workshops and seminars on recent trends in IT like IoT, Block Chain Technology, Data Science, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence.

The department includes a team of well qualified, dedicated and experienced faculty to impart quality education, while providing project guidance, fostering personality development, and stressing ethical values related to IT. The department has well-equipped labs to impart sound practical knowledge of courses offered in IT, since  the department believes  that practical experience goes hand in hand with theoretical knowledge for the proper understanding of basic concepts.

With a team of committed faculty members and staff and a very healthy work culture the department strives to develop disciplined, responsible, committed and dedicated software professionals with the necessary skills to respond to the demands and needs of industry. I am sure that our students will prove to be an invaluable asset in any organization.
